Thank you for your interest in the Chess Program at the Jewish Community Center!  Indy Chess is excited to offer this program on Monday evenings beginning October 28, 2024 until December 16, 2024 from 5:00pm to 6:00pm in the J Cafe.  Students in grades 1st to 6th grade are eligible to participate, and no prior chess knowledge is needed!  The program will use the Coach Jay's Chess Academy curriculum, and this eight-week series will cover the White Belt lessons (sequence is white, yellow, orange, green, purple, blue, black belts).  The lessons include board setup, how pieces move, what is checkmate, basic tactics like forks, and even endgame strategy with passed pawns.  The registration cost is $99/student (includes workbook).  You do not need to be a member of the JCC to register.  Drive to the back of the building, park in the large lot, and parents will need to sign in their children and walk them to the Cafe (bring ID if non-members).  Questions?  Email info@indychess.org.  The chess program will be taught by USCF-certified chess instructor and tournament director Mike Chapuran, who also founded Indy Chess.
